Building and Growing Silently – Boda and Sports Day Reflections

During the vibrant and inspiring Boda and Sports Day event, Ven. Canon Elizabeth Kibai delivered a powerful sermon titled “Building and Growing Silently,” drawing from 1 Kings 6:1–7. Her message centered around God’s unique approach to growth and preparation—often done away from the limelight, in silence and obedience.

In 1 Kings 6:7, God commanded that no sound of hammer or chisel be heard at the temple site. The stones were to be fully shaped at the quarry before being assembled. Canon Kibai used this imagery to challenge and encourage the church, especially those ministering among boda boda riders and sports communities.

“We are not called to make noise,” she emphasized, “but to build lives quietly—with precision, purpose, and discipline.”

Key Sermon Takeaways:

  1. Divine Instructions Matter:
Just as Solomon obeyed God’s detailed blueprint, we must follow divine guidance in our outreach efforts. Effective ministry to boda riders and athletes begins with obedience—often through behind-the-scenes prayer, mentorship, and quiet labor.
  2. The Quarry Experience Is Crucial:
The shaping ground—often painful and hidden—is where God builds character. Ministry in the boda and sports sectors involves discomfort, sacrifice, and rejection. But these hard places are where true transformation begins.
  3. Preparation Before Placement:
Before stones were used in the temple, they were perfectly dressed. Likewise, we must allow God to refine our speech, attitudes, and integrity before stepping into active ministry. Silent seasons—though difficult—are essential for lasting impact.

Conclusion:

Canon Kibai urged all believers to embrace the quiet seasons of preparation. “Allow God to cut, refine, and polish your life,” she concluded. “In silence, He is shaping you—and in His time, He will place you to serve in the temple of His kingdom.”
