Raila Odinga Mourns ‘Dedicated Public Servant’ Prof. George Magoha
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga has condoled with the family of former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha following his death.
Prof. Magoha passed away on Tuesday evening at Nairobi Hospital where he was rushed after collapsing at his home.
Mr. Odinga, in a statement shortly after the professor’s passing, mourned him as both an academician and a transformational national leader.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. George Magoha, a transformational leader, illustrious scholar, dedicated public servant, and distinguished medical doctor who left an indelible mark on our country’s education system,” wrote the former premier.
“We will remember him for his incredible intellect, wit, and ability to inspire and challenge us to do our best. My condolences go out to his family and colleagues. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.”
Other national leaders have also sent in their messages of condolence to the family, with many of them celebrating the late for his staunch leadership and advocacy for professionalism.
ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo mourned the former CS as a focused professional throughout his academia and his tenure in government.
“I have learned with shock and disbelief of the passing on of Prof. George Omore Magoha, a short while ago,” wrote CS Owalo.
“Prof. Magoha will be remembered as a focused professional in his field, and a candid stickler for discipline and efficiency in institutional leadership and management. He will be sadly missed.”
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi remembered Magoha as an astute leader and scholar whose transformation in the educational sector remains vivid.
“Deeply saddened to learn of the passing on of former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha. I have vivid memories of this great and tough scholar who had distinguished himself by his immense contribution to the education sector of our country,” Wetangula wrote.
“The death of a professor is a big loss and a blow to the education sector. He will be fondly remembered for his selfless service on impacting change in the education field while at the helm of the education ministry.”
He added: “On behalf of the National Assembly, my family and myself, I wish to offer our sincere heartfelt condolences and convey our sympathies and solidarity to Professor’s family, professional colleagues, and friends.”
Speaker Kingi wrote: “The demise of Prof George Magoha, former Education CS, a scholar and medic of outstanding repute, has left us all in deep shock! Words cannot express our collective heartbreak as a nation. I condole with his family and Kenyans at large following this loss.”
Other leaders who have mourned Prof. Magoha include; Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), James Orengo (Siaya), former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, ex-State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
