Commissioning Service at Wang’uru/Thiba KAYO: Embracing Faith and Focus
Today the Wang’uru/Thiba Kayo community gathered for a powerful commissioning service, guided by the insightful sermon of DYO James K. Ngigi from ACK Kirinyaga Diocese. The service was enriched by reflections on Gideon’s story from Judges 8 and the lessons from Acts 10:1-4. The theme emphasized perseverance, divine qualification, and maintaining focus amidst challenges.
Lessons from Gideon’s Journey:
1. When God Calls, He Qualifies: The sermon began with the story of Gideon, who, despite his humble beginnings and feeling inadequate, was chosen by God for a significant task. Gideon’s background in idol worship did not disqualify him. The message reinforced that God qualifies those He calls, regardless of their self-perceived limitations. Just as David faced Goliath with faith, believers are reminded that God’s promise ensures His presence and support in all circumstances.
2. Raising an Altar: Gideon’s first action was to destroy the idols in his family and raise an altar to the Lord. The sermon highlighted the importance of removing negative influences—such as immorality and idolatry—from our lives and families. By doing so, we invite God’s presence and power into our battles. The power of prayer and the Word of God are essential in transforming lives and securing victories.
3. If God Is on Our Side, Numbers Don’t Count: In Gideon’s story, God reduced the number of soldiers to demonstrate that victory is not dependent on human strength but on divine intervention. The sermon emphasized that with God on our side, we are the majority, regardless of the numbers or odds. Standing firm with God guarantees our success.
4. Never Lose Focus: Gideon and his team’s determination and unwavering focus were key to their victory. The message encouraged the youth and all believers to remain steadfast and focused, even in weariness. The pitfalls of peer influence, a careless attitude, and distractions were discussed as factors that can lead to losing focus. The comparison with Samson and Delilah served as a cautionary tale about the hidden agendas of the devil and the importance of vigilance.
The commissioning service at Wang’uru/Thiba Kayo was a profound reminder of the strength and focus required to overcome life’s challenges. The teachings from Gideon’s story, alongside the encouragement from DYO James K. Ngigi, called the community to embrace God’s qualifications, raise altars of faith, and stand firm with unwavering focus. As we navigate our journeys, let us remember that with God, we are more than conquerors. The service was a powerful affirmation of faith and dedication, inspiring all present to face their battles with renewed vigor and divine confidence.
